2007 - 2008: Legislative Watch

 

Bills under consideration by the California State Legislature during this Legislative Session.

ACA 15 (Mullin)
Allows 17 year olds the right to vote in a primary election if they will be 18 years of age when the general election is held, giving these new voters the opportunity to participate in a complete election cycle. Requires 2/3rd to pass.

AB 1819 (Price)
Allows 17 year olds to preregister to vote so that they will be automatically registered to vote on their 18th birthday. Supported by Secretary of State Debra Bowen, Common Cause, and the League of Women Voters.

SB 967 (Simitian)
Allows registrars to redraw precinct lines subtracting out the Vote by Mail voters to reduce the excessive cost of producing, delivering, retrieving and confidentially shredding paper ballots that will not be used at the polls by those who vote by mail.
