Deadline to file as a Write-In Candidate for June 3 Primary is May 20th

Redwood City, CA - Warren Slocum, San Mateo County’s Chief Elections Officer, reminded voters of the County that anyone interested in filing to run for office as a write-in candidate on the June 3 Statewide Direct Primary Election ballot will need to submit their paperwork to the Elections Office by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20th.

Eligible persons may declare a write-in candidacy for local board of supervisor positions, a position on the town council of Atherton, and partisan county central committee seats. Individuals may schedule appointments to file nomination documents with the Filing Officer, Lupe Sanchez, by calling (650) 312-5293 or emailing lsanchez@smcare.org.

Those interested in becoming a write-in candidate for elective city offices must file their nomination documents with the City Clerk within the same time frame.

Write-in candidates must be voters in the district or political subdivision in which they are to be voted on. No fee or charge shall be required of a write-in candidate except in the case of a candidate for city office, as provided in Section 10228 of the California Election Code.

The Candidate’s Guide, which includes the rules and procedures for write-in candidates and general information about the upcoming June 3 Statewide Direct Election, is available online at the San Mateo County Elections Web site at www.shapethefuture.org or by calling (650) 312-5222.
