SAN MATEO CO.: VOTERS ENCOURAGED TO REVIEW SAMPLE BALLOTS BEFORE ELECTION DAY
San Mateo County voters will begin receiving sample ballots with information regarding the Nov. 4 presidential election Saturday, and county elections officials are encouraging residents to read up before turning out at the polls.
The ballot voters will face this November is long, covering both sides of four pages, and with a high turnout expected, the county elections office is asking voters to familiarize themselves with the sample ballot before Election Day to cut down on time spent voting and the wait for others in line.
"Voters will need to do their homework before heading to the polls. Besides the hotly contested and widely covered presidential race, the ballot is loaded with state and local candidates, state propositions and local measures," Chief Elections Office Warren Slocum said in a prepared statement.
Elections officials suggest voters mark their choices on the sample ballots and then bring the samples to their polling places Nov. 4.
The San Mateo County Sample Ballot & Official Voter Information Pamphlets, available in English, Chinese and Spanish and on tape for the visually impaired, will begin arriving Saturday for the county's more than 365,000 registered voters, election officials said. In addition to a sample of the actual ballot, voters will be provided information about polling places and voters' rights.
San Mateo County voters will also receive the California Secretary of State's information guide, which have already been sent out and features information on and arguments for and against the various state propositions. Information from the Secretary of State is available online www.voterguide.sos.ca.gov.
