First-Time Voters
You may have to show identification when you vote for the first time.
If you did not provide one of the identification numbers listed on the registration form at the time you registered to vote and you are voting in a federal election (where presidential and congressional candidates are on the ballot), poll workers will ask you to show proof of identity and residency through:
- A valid California driver’s license or ID, or
- A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, or other government document that shows your name and current residential address.
