November 4, 2014 Statewide General Election

Tally Room Cam, (Live at 8:00 p.m. on November 4)

Watch live footage of our secure Tally Room on the Tally Room Cam. It will show you what's going on at the Registration & Elections Division where the counting of precinct votes takes place.

After the polls close, the results of ballots returned prior to Election Day by Vote by Mail voters will be tallied and reported at 8:05 p.m. The second set of returns from voters who live in Vote by Mail precincts will be prepared for release at 8:30 p.m. After that release, the staff in the Tally Room will prepare for the 9:00 p.m. reporting of votes cast at the Early Voting Centers.

At 9:30 p.m., the first of the precinct votes will be reported when the Mobile Ballot Boxes (MBBs) or electronic memory cards that hold all the electronic votes for each precinct are brought directly from the precincts by Election Officers and Election Material Couriers to the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division. In the Tally Room, MBBs from the county's 475 precincts are read by an electronic reader and the votes are downloaded to a database (Tally). Votes are then cumulated and reports are created for posting (Fusion). Once the votes are tallied and the reports are proofed, the semi-official results are uploaded to our web site.
